Share Your Location
Before visiting a property, share your live location with a trusted person. Let them know where you're going and when to expect you back.
Never Pay Before Viewing
Do not make any payments or deposits before physically viewing the property. Legitimate landlords will always allow viewings first.
Verify the Landlord
Verify the landlord's identity and ownership of the property. Ask for identification and proof of property ownership before any transaction.
Use In-App Messaging
Keep all communications within PaNyumba's messaging system. This creates a record of your conversations and helps protect both parties.
Too Good to Be True?
Be wary of listings with unusually low prices or landlords who pressure you to pay quickly. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Report Suspicious Activity
If you encounter any suspicious listings or behavior, report it immediately using the report button on the listing or contact our support team.
Red Flags to Watch For
- Landlord refuses to show the property before payment
- Requests for payment via unusual methods (gift cards, crypto, etc.)
- Price is significantly below market rate
- Landlord claims to be overseas and can't meet in person
- Pressure to make quick decisions without viewing
- Requests for personal documents like ID copies upfront
- Property photos look professional but too generic
- Inconsistent or evasive answers to questions
Trust Your Instincts
If something feels wrong during a viewing or conversation, trust your gut. You are never obligated to:
- Enter a property if you feel unsafe
- Continue a conversation if you're uncomfortable
- Make any payments until you're completely sure
- Share personal information you're not comfortable sharing
